The counselor’s role in implementing innovative clinical approaches: Competencies, Considerations, and Creativity.
Dr. William R. Sterner is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Rider University. Before his current appointment at Rider, he was Professor Emeritus of Counseling at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. He has nearly 20 years of experience as a counselor educator at the master’s and doctoral levels. He received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (2007) from Penn State University. He is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor. He has over 30 years of clinical work experience primarily in the field of mental health and addictions. His scholarly activities include numerous publications and national and international presentations focusing on counseling, supervisor, and counselor educator competencies; methodological and validity research in counseling; and mental health, substance abuse, and spirituality issues. He is currently serving on the editorial board for The Career Development Quarterly. He is an active member of the American Mental Health Counseling Association.
